Sukothai

Sorry for my extremely long absence in updates especially if yall haven't been receiving my emails.

During these past three months, I've been all over the place. I traveled to parts of Thailand I didn't get the chance to go to before, and then over to Lao, Cambodia, and Vietnam. I guess you can say there were three parts to my trip. Part 1: Thailand and Laos. Part 2: the Islands in Thailand. Part 3: Cambodia and Vietnam

First destination: Sukothai.

I made it to Sukothai, the ancient capital, with little to no problems. Getting to the bus station in Bangkok has become second nature, and not something I panic over. Sitting on a bus about 2 hours past when we were supposed to arrive still bugs me. I guess it's better than being on a train for 9 hrs rather than the 7 I spent on a bus. My traveling companion and one of the two English teachers at U-Thong, Jenny, arrived at our guesthouse, and promptly ate a delicious meal and knocked out. Who knew sitting on a bus for so long was that tiring? You'd think we'd get enough sleep, but sleeping on a bus isn't really sleeping.

The next day we explored what this UNESCO site had to offer. The ruins are unbelievable. Much much better than when I went to Ayutthaya in the way it was preserved and the cleanliness of the site. We rented bikes, hopped on and off to various wats (temples), and got to see just the most amazing statues that represented the origins of Thailand imaginable. Look it up if you are curious enough..if not wait till I can upload or show you. Getting to and back from the site at first seemed intimidating because our guesthouse we situated in the new Sukothai, and the site was in old Sukothai, but there actually is a "trolley" which I will quote and use lightly since it's more a truck with bench seats that transported people back and forth for 20 bahts. Not bad..not bad at all. We left the ruins mid afternoon, sweaty, tired, and just wanting a ice cold shower. Good thing most guesthouses only have cold water. We got what we wanted.

Next...Chiang Mai.
